Weekend update and a link
An Ode to Badfinger
As happens every year, my yearly book challenge gets interrupted, and I need to then soldier up and get back on track. This year’s first obstacle… John Grisham’s “The Chamber.” The book is fine, the problem is it’s LONG, I mean 60% longer than your average modern novel. There’s really no major plot twist, it’s a decent dive into the morals of capital punishment. Again, it’s really a slog though, and derailed my reading mission for 2026. I’ve moved on to a Stanley Tucci memoir and the new Rory McIlroy bio, so that should spice things up somewhat.
I’m a guy of a “certain age,” so that means text threads with my contemporaries discussing music, and dinner conversations discussing music, and lots of other scenarios where music is discussed, old clips are exchanged, and Rock and Roll HoF nominees are debated. I have one lawyer colleague with an ongoing email thread discussing the Dead, along with random 70s and 80s acts. You know who he brought up the other day and I can’t stop listening to? These Welshmen….
Listen to this! They are time travelers… DECADES ahead of their time… if this song debuted on the Reality Bites soundtrack, would anyone blink an eye. Badfinger is an early-90s Seattle indie band… and check out their catalog!
Alright gotta go, might do a few more of these if I get a moment. Thanks for all the feedback on the recent video pod! I have a few ideas in mind going forward.
